Stepping inside the rehearsal room, Sakura looked at herself in the long wall-length mirror and frowned. It was rare that she stepped inside the dance studio without Akeno, it didn’t feel right to only face one of herself in the mirror, but she also knew that it was best to practice with her ‘backing dancers’ without any distraction. Rattling through the seals for Bunshin at double speed, she focused her chakra and soon had another ‘Sakura’ next to her, summoned from the puff of smoke.

She nodded to herself as she kicked off her shoes and watched the motionless clone in the mirror, breathing deeply, enjoying the soft feeling of wood underneath her toes. Without any instructions, the clone stood idly, a dead being with no soul. The frown returned to her lips, needing not to pretend that she was happy go lucky right now, and let the flow of the dance run through her mind without transmitting it to the clone just yet.

“Come on you superstar.
Let’s dance!”

Eyes forward in front of the mirror, she gave the mental commands to her clone to do what was necessary for the dance. It would do nothing other than the dance, that was its sole purpose, but she needed to confirm if this would work. Together the pair ran through the dance at full speed and Sakura was not disappointed with her work, or rather, at least not her clones work. She, herself, made a few mistakes along the way. She, the clone, did not...it was frustrating...the mindless drone worked through her command with no room for mistakes, following only the programming.

“So unfair.”

Realising how trivial her frustration was, Sakura couldn’t help but laugh at herself, the clone stood next to her completely motionless, uncommanded once more. She could have easily had it laugh alongside her, but she knew that being mocked by her better self was not something she could deal with, even if it was her own command.

“I’m pretty sure I can do better than this.
More backing dancers would be totes emotes.”

Flipping through the seals once more, she decided to see how far she could really push her cloning abilities, it wasn’t something she had tested before. The sensei’s at the academy had never really pushed her and her family certainly didn’t want her to cause herself any problems, but here she was. “Alone”. Two more clones burst forth from their respective smokes and waved to the older Sakura’s with grins on their face, she sure was excited to dance and better herself. To catch up with Akeno’s abilities.

Of course, she wasn’t really alone, and it wasn’t the clones she was counting. There was of course security around, but not inside her sanctum right now. All of the Sakura’s looked around to check the coast was clear with a giggle and then lined up in front of the mirror, all clones behind the real but all as cute as a button.

She took a few moments to steady her breathing as the clones behind her bounced and stretched, it was taking more concentration than she had thought to summon these 3 clones and she was certain that this was probably her limit for the time being.

“Alright girls, let’s go again!”

The quartet of dancers busted out their moves for a few minutes, the same routine as practiced previously with Sakura miming her own lyrics in front of the mirror rather than singing so she could focus on the dancing. Up front, she could see herself making less mistakes than before but yet again, all 3 clones were flawlessly precise in their movements. Nodding to herself at the end of the rehearsal she decided that it was time to change it up a little.

“Okay ladies, form up again.”
She didn’t know why she bothered shouting out to them, it had no impact on their behaviour.

Standing in the same formation as before, Sakura started the routine once again. About half way through the dance, she had the clones dart forward and circle around her a couple of times before making their way back to the previous position and continuing. She smiled gently as her experimentation with changes on the fly worked but could not bring herself to stop at such a simple maneuver.

One by one, the clones jumped forward to where Akeno would usually be and performed unique dance routines that she was improvising in her head as she went. Each time, the remaining pair would stay behind, backing the two primary Sakuras up just as expected.

“Nice practice girls.
Go home and get some rest!”

And with that the clones were dismissed, dissipating back into smoke.

Having seen her friend use Bunshin with only one hand, Sakura knew that this would be infinitely more useful than flipping through all seals on stage. Gently slipping to the floor, she took a cross-legged position and closed her eyes, focussing on the chakra moving around her body and what it would take to control that. Seals were only for assistance, they weren’t necessary, or so she had been taught.

Raising one fist in front of her, she meditated to remember the rough flow of what was necessary to generate a clone. Slowly, cautiously, she performed the first seal. It didn’t seem right, but she couldn’t expect to get it perfect the first time. Still, she tried to control her chakra in a way that would bring it around roughly in the correct way, who knew what she would create at the end.

She signed through the rest of the seals, keeping her chakra from spiralling out of control but definitely was not ‘right’. It was slightly off, not by much, but it was off. As she finished, she shrugged softly from her easy pose and opened her eyes to see the cloud of smoke blast into existence in front of her. Unfortunately, when it dissipated, there was no clone stood with her.

A tinge of disappointment in her abilities wasn’t going to set her back. Raising both her hands back together, she flipped through the seals and summoned the 3 lifeless clones back to her with her eyes closed, taking in the experiences of the chakra flowing through her before they appeared. Sakura knew she had a good grasp of chakra control already, there was no reason she couldn’t get the knack of this before she left the studio. Dismissing the clones with an unnecessary wave of the hand, she took a deep breath and centered herself once more.

Ignoring all of her senses as best as possible, Sakura silently moved her right hand through seals at a higher pace than previously, hoping that the increased speed would distract her from trying to create perfect chakra flow. Carefully she tracked the flow through her body, controlled its movement, doing her best to maneuver it into something that would create a few clones.

“Bunshin”

A familiar poofing sound resounded through the dance studio and a smile rose across her face even without looking, she knew that she had succeeded to some degree. Opening her eyes, the sapphire orbs darted around the room looking for her accomplishment, soon settling on herself. One clone stood motionless behind her, only visible through the mirror wall. It wasn’t in the right place, nor was it as many as she intended, but it was a start.

Many hours passed as Sakura tirelessly performed one-handed seals from her seated position, endlessly molding her chakra over and over until she got the technique right. But over the course of time, she got better. Over the course of time, with the utmost concentration, she found that she could summon 3 clones without the need to perform hand seals at all.

“Well, time to do it for real.
I won’t be able to sit down on the stage.”

She wobbled as rose to her feet due to her legs being numb from so much sitting, but soon the blood rushed back to them and after some light exercise she was ready. The clones exercised with her despite their lack of need, the girl wanted to confirm that they were capable of the same array of command as their dual handed sisters, and of course, they were.

Dismissing the clones, Sakura looked into the mirror with a steely gaze and then began to dance. As 5 or so moves would be met with the appearance of a new clone, which would immediately dive into the same dance as her without any hesitation. The first, second and third clones were all great successes and she finally felt that this was a good place to stop. People would probably check up on her soon and for now, this was enough.

~~Kanden~~

Another day in the rehearsal room, another day “in secret”. She still hadn’t got used to sneaking around behind Akeno’s back but it was all for her in the end anyway, everything she was practising was to amplify her twins talents. Looking down at her fingers, she concentrated her raiton nature through them, feeling the tingle of electricity rush through to the tips. She had not practiced Kanden much since she had learned it, in fact, she had barely played around with Raiton at all other than what her tutors had taught her.

Staring into the mirror, Sakura flipped through the hand seals necessary to activate her jutsu. Lightning silently rippled across her palms and fingers, her hands tingled with pleasure as her nerves struggled to keep up with the new electrical signals that were bombarding her system. She smiled as she waved them in front of the mirror.

“This isn’t enough”

Focussing her entire mind towards her fingertips, she was determined to do something that was different. She visualised sparks emanating from her fingers, dazzling the crowds. Unfortunately she couldn’t manifest her vision, lightning continued to crackle but there was nothing spectacular about that, especially not from a distance.

Her eyes darted to the pole she had had installed in the corner of the room for today, she nodded at the sight, enjoying the fact that she would be able to fire some raiton chakra around without having to worry about damaging the surroundings. The electricity played across her skin as she gazed intently at her target, pushing out her index finger, now hoping that she could get her chakra to jump.

Naturally no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t do it. That wasn’t what kanden did. She cursed silently at this stupid jutsu and then threw her right hand out in annoyance. A bolt of lightning arcing from her hand to the pole. It didn’t make her any happier about it all, her brow was still furrowed in annoyance.

Collapsing cross-legged to the floor, Sakura shut her eyes and thanked the stars that nobody was around to see her diva attitude. Taking several deep breaths, she steadied herself emotionally, remembering that it was all for the show. In her right hand she still held the electricity that she had conjured up earlier, she focussed her mind on that energy, tingling through her muscles and across her skin. Guiding it up into her fingertips and then back down across the flat of her palm, building up minute control over her ability whilst it was still within her system.

“All good things come to those who wait.”

She had never held on to Kanden for this length of time before. For the most part she had been taught to generate and expel. It was interesting to feel it rumbling through her for longer periods of time.

Moving her hand in a slow rhythmical flow in front of her closed eyes, she concentrated on holding on to the raiton chakra blossoming on her fingers, content to come to an understanding of what it took to continually manifest the ability. Sakura was beginning to accept that she didn’t have the talent to do what she wanted so was forced to slow down her training.

Rising back to her feet, she met her own gaze in the mirror. The lightning still crackling around her now closed fist. She pushed it forward slowly towards her reflection, retaining the energy in her hand, refusing to unleash it upon the world. The mirror certainly was not designed to withstand such a force, and it would be a shame for her family to repair it. Soon she was flurrying her fists quickly, repeating patterns of punches for practice, still holding on to her own chakra and jutsu.

One Two. One. One. One Two. One, Two, Hook.

“Enough.”

As her hook wrapped around her body, she expelled the jutsu from her hand towards the metal pole. Letting the installation take her jutsu safely rather than any of the mirrors or flamable wood, she was impressed with the precision that she could manifest, even if it was lackluster in spectacle. There would definitely be a way to work this into her shows.

With the jutsu out of her system, she turned her thoughts back inside herself, concentrating on feeling the chakra flowing through her body. Taking it slow, she shifted her hands through the seals one by one, allowing herself ample opportunity to trace the chakra as she molded it and moved it throughout her chakra pathways.

This was an important step for her. She had decided that hand seals were no good on stage. She needed to understand how to perform without the need for the trivial “helping hands” of the seals for her control, no pun intended.

She tried to push the kanden into her feet, anywhere other than her hands, but ultimately it was a bust. The jutsu could only be used in her hands, no matter how much she tried, eventually the kanden ended up in her hands. The lightning crackled across her fingertips once more and she felt like she had a pretty good feel for how it was supposed to go now. In a few hours, she might make it...or maybe a few days. Maybe even longer, nobody could ever really tell with this type of thing.

For a few seconds she sent out a few flurries of punches to check that she did indeed have the control over everything, and then thrusting both her hands forwards, she released the jutsu one more time.

Chakra flared up through her pathways, she felt a wave of calmness flush over her. With a single deep breath, she began to mold raiton chakra in her system and work it through herself like she would with the assistance of hand seals. A small smile creased her face as she felt the technique working smoothly, or at least, as smoothly as possible so far.

“You can do this Sakura”

The lightning began to crackle through her fingers, the blood rushing to her hands with the tingling sensation it was giving off. The smile was quickly replaced with a frown as she felt her hands going numb, the lightning wasn’t right, she had managed to output it but it was too strong. It was disrupting her nervous system.

“Close.”

She had no choice but to dispel the technique. She didn’t have the confidence to fire this one off, anything could have happened with a jutsu that was out of control. Instead she just let it work itself out of her system, depriving it of any additional chakra as she forced everything away from the technique, allowing it to dissipate naturally without any adverse side effects...or at least, she hoped that there was no harm in keeping it inside her.

Once the malformed Kanden was gone, she took some time just to slump against the floor and collect her thoughts. Time passed sufficiently and she remained on the ground, with her eyes closed and her body deep in Savasana pose. Without having to worry about remaining upright, Sakura concentrated all her focus internally and began to mold her chakra again.

This time she tried to take even more control over her ability, trying to avoid the costly mistake that she had incurred last time. It had taken time to get feeling back in her hands and she didn’t intend to lose it again today. As her chakra flowed, she tried to keep it in check and only formed what she considered “enough” raiton chakra to perform Kanden.

“This time…”

When she was ready, she activated the kanden in her body and she felt the familiar raiton energy flow across the palms of her hands and into her fingers. The lightning began to flicker and spark, running across her skin and then dissipated without her command.

Rolling her head to the side, Sakura looked down at her hand with disappointment written all over her face, but practice would make perfect. It was her own mistake by choking the chakra as much as she did, the mistake was obvious in hindsight.

Laying there, perfectly relaxed, she must have fallen asleep. Not that the rehersal room changed when she opened her eyes but she could tell. The room was darker as the light of day was fading and no doubt she had been awoken by someone coming to check on her, not that they were here right now. Without moving from her position, she began to channel her chakra again, taking care to form the raiton chakra to the best of her abilities.

As it rushed to her hands, she felt like this time she had been successful, it felt ‘right’. Sleeping on things always solved problems, or so her family had said. Lightning crackled around her hands, threatening to move up her arms but never making it past her wrists. She felt no unexpected sensations from the jutsu, the energy was coursing through her but it was neither pleasure nor pain, simply existence.

Jumping to her feet by rolling her body, she raised the palm of her hand to observe the effect, nodding her head that this was definitely the Kanden she would usually cast. A simple thrust of her hand towards the pole was enough to confirm, the lightning arcing from her fingers and then being grounded.

With her other hand still shrouded by the technique, she threw out a series of jabs, remaining in total control of the raiton chakra. Once satisfied, she dispelled the jutsu. It was done. Who needed handseals.

~~Sakki~~

Akeno must have surely noticed that she had been sneaking away to train by now. Sakura was thankful that her twin had never raised it, she didn’t want her uber-talented sister to know how hard she was working in order to keep up. Today was different though, most times she would be practising ninja skills for the shows, but she was shaken by another visit from the shadow man, he had told her that she needed to work on her presence.

“I can justify that I suppose.”

Staring in the mirror, locking eye contact with herself, she thought back to good ol’ depression sensei. With her newfound control over her own chakra, she began to guide it around her body, allowing the force to course through her pathways.

The young idol let her mindset change, the bubbliness slip away to be replaced by the intent to kill. All soft edges of her personality sharpened to the point where this felt natural.

Looking deeply into her own sapphire orbs, she was beginning to scare herself. The being behind her eyes was dangerous even without any chakra projecting yet. For a moment, she was worried to project her killing intent, she wondered if the shadow man had been behind this all along, but she could not lock herself out jutsu due to her own fear.

Releasing the chakra pressure, she could sense her own intent mirrored back at her through her body language. The chakra had no effect on the world around them as such, but there was a pressure, just like she had been taught.

There was no way she could continue this, she couldn’t afford to scare herself or other people like this for long periods of time. With a successful venture, she decided that she would take a break, come back another day. Spending some time with the family would be good for her.

Time passed, she came back another day. The Sakura in the mirror stood in front of her once again, cute and bubbly and ready to become intimidation incarnate again. This time she was determined that she wouldn’t lose her cute demeanor to Sakki, the chakra could do all the work for her. As she considered all of this, she was already pressurizing the chakra inside her body, letting the storm inside her rage within her own control.

Slowly she began to go through dance steps, wide smile bright on her lips, releasing the Sakki from inside her and letting her presence project towards the mirror once more. Without the insanity, she didn’t feel quite as scared of herself, but as she moved, she noticed that there were slight trails of smoky chakra emanating from her body.

She was confused slightly at what was happening, it was faint and wispy, but there weren’t many to be any visual effects. It dawned on her that she was now using too much chakra. It didn’t make sense, it was the same as before, but this was what it was...too much chakra, creating too much presence.

Confused by her over-application of chakra, Sakura steadied her breathing, resetting her feelings by looking around the room and then shifted her visual attention back to her own form in the mirror. Instead of letting her chakra become controlled chaos inside her, she controlled it in a much simpler fashion, generating a more serene and graceful power that was much more fitting for her refined tastes.

Calmly she released the pressure that she had steadily cooked up, not all at once like she had been used to, but a steady stream of presence rather than one overwhelming burst. Sakura imagined that she would need this mode of sakki just as much as the pure overwhelming burst that she had previously practiced, fear was only useful for as long as it could be maintained.

Her cold gaze reflected back on her as she felt a shiver run down her spine. It wasn’t the fear of losing herself to the darkness like before, this was the feeling that she was surpassing the expectations that had been set of her, generated by her own mind and also the pressure that she was exerting on the world around her.

Todays training was done. It was time to return back to the family.

~~Henge~~

Another day, more practice for the shows. Being a student had made costume changes for the twins so much easier and now it was Sakura’s turn to take it to the next level. Stood just in a white leotard, she began to strut and shimmy around the studio whilst performing the hand seals necessary for Henge, keeping her legs and hips flowing to distract away from her hands movements. Distraction for both the crowd and herself, performances were difficult.

With twists, leaps and spins for those few seconds, Sakura concentrated on her choice of transformation. Visions of Akeno crossed through her mind, similar but different enough in style that she wasn’t quite as fluent in its application. Her own form would have been far too simple, she had mastered that at the academy itself.

As she rounded out the dance, she struck a pose with one hand on her hip and the other in the air, activating her transformation. Looking up into the mirror to admire her efforts, she was faced with the smiling face of an angel. An angel named Akeno.
Okay sure, it was Sakuras face too, but the hair style, the subtle differences in their clothing style. She was definitely the dancer.

“Costume change complete.”

Now staring her twin sister in the eyes, she began to perform one of the routines that she had seen Akeno solo-perform out in front of her many times, focusing solely on mimicking the movements she would make and finding ways to integrate the hand seals into those motions. She was in no rush to finish the transformation sequence, this practice was all about having the reliability on hand so that she couldn’t get distracted.

As she got used to the routine, she began to speed it all up in the studio, throwing herself gracefully around the room whilst still maintaining control over her chakra and hand seals to prepare Henge, which was more or less ready now. Pushing away from the ground, she performed a graceful backwards somersault and whilst in mid-air, triggered her jutsu.

As she rotated, her simple baggy clothes were instantly transformed into a dazzling sequined evening gown that she had seen an older idol wear on her latest tour. Landing back on her feet, she raised her attention to the mirrors to confirm that the transformation had gone as expected and was not disturbed by her landing, and then continued to dance. Although at this point, the gown wasn’t really designed to dance in at all, so she quickly stopped, choosing to admire her fashion choice in the mirror instead.

The gown was beautiful but the effect wasn’t quite what she wanted from her transformation so Sakura began to run through the hand seals at double speed, or rather, just use usual speed. No dancing was to be performed on this practice run, she was focused directly on her chakra control, envisioning something new out of her Henge.

Releasing her jutsu slowly, Sakura tried to bring the transformation up smoothly across her body from toe to head. In her mind it was perfect, a real showstopper with flashes and sparkles alike but for now she would settle. Unfortunately her abilities did not allow for this change in jutsu, her transformation was performed like a basic henge, she emerged in her new costume immediately.

Sakura shrugged in her blood red cocktail dress, disappointed by her lack of flair but unsurprised by her failure. She had never managed anything out of the ordinary with her other jutsu practices, why would this one be any different, but at least she had tried.

Shaking her head, she brushed away the minor annoyance of her failure and went back to performing hand seals. Within seconds she had transformed again but this wasn’t enough to satisfy her.

Without rest, the channelling of chakra was still going, her hands repeating through the seals of Henge, and then again. She was transformed. Into a completely new costume. Yet Sakura was still not done, she would move through costumes rapidly, changing from form to form to form until she was too tired to continue.

With her mind and body on the edge of losing concentration, she desperately tried to cling on to her form. Ultimately her stamind did not hold out forever even after slumping to the floor and soon she was left back in her snow white leotard.
