Kekkei Genkai, or Bloodline Limits, are special abilities that are unique to an individual's body, not an ability that was learned or trained as most are (though the abilities of a Bloodline can surely be developed).

Bloodlines vary drastically in their application; some, such as the Sharingan or Byakugan, simply provide the user's eyes with a vast array of abilities that dramatically enhance the ninja's abilities. Others, such as the Shikotsumyaku or the Body of the Sage, enhance the user's entire body, giving them abilities that can't be duplicated through the use of jutsu. Every Kekkei Genkai is different-some use Stages, some provide a variety of abilities one can obtain, others give the wielder their full power from the start.

While there is no hard ruling, as a general rule of thumb, the greater the potential of the bloodline ability, the more Advanced Abilities it will consume. Typically, though not always, the final stage of a bloodline will, in conjunction with those stages before it, consume 10 Advanced Ability Points. It is possible to have more than one, but keep in mind the Advanced Ability point cost.

Obtaining a Bloodline after a character is created (for example, by transplanting a Sharingan), requires the character to pay Transplant Costs. These costs are IN ADDITION to a bloodline's normal costs. In the case of Doujutsu, transplants are considered always active, and must be covered to avoid incurring automatic activation and maintenance costs.

Lastly, a character with heritage from two or more clans that possess bloodlines may only be born expressing signs of a single bloodline. If another bloodline is also expressed in their heritage, that second bloodline may be developed naturally at a later date with no transplant costs. The development of this second bloodline must occur after the character has been created. Only one bloodline beyond the first may be obtained this way, regardless of how many bloodlines may be present in one's heritage.
